5 ways to use Rosewater!

I cleaned my room yesterday and came across my bottle of rosewater! Wow! I had almost forgotten about it! Last time I used it for my facepack for oily skin .So I decided to use it again! Here are 5 ways to use Rosewater to help you finish that lovely smelling bottle!

Well rosewater is a really versatile product and can be used in A LOT of ways! I tried to pick the best five

1. Use in Facepacks or other home made scrubs!

As I mentioned earlier, the benefits of rose water for the skin are infinite! Mix it in your face scrub or facepack to give you a calming effect! Rose water is proved to be an anti inflammatory! You can also use cotton balls soaked in rosewater to reduce under eye puffiness and get rid of dark circles!

2. Bed sheet perfume!

Yeah! I once had a broken bottle of rosewater and I had to make use of it! I sprinkled a mixture of rose water and water over all the bedsheets of my house The house smelt amazing! Now I sprinkle this sometimes before going to bed. Gives you a feeling of sleeping in a garden

3. Natural Replacement for cosmetic products.

Rose water is very commonly used as a toner. Specially girls with oily skin will benefit a lot from it! It can also be used as a natural make up remover. Some women also use it as a hair conditioner. Mix rose water with water and apply on scalp if you have a dry and itchy scalp. It increases blood flow to the roots of your hair and helps increase it’s length. Replace your make up setting spray with rose water!

4. Scented Bath.

Mix 2-3 spoons of rosewater to your bathing water for a cool scented bath. This will make your skin soft and glowing! I usually do this during summers when I need a nice refreshing bath Lots of spas use rose water for aroma therapy.

5. Food Food.

Yes, you have seen a lot of food products having rose water as an ingredient in them. My mom make rose water cupcakes which are delicious! Of course she uses naturally prepared rose water (mixing rose petals in water) and not those rose water bottles which shops sell. It can be used to flavor milk,fruit juices,cereal and custard! Remove Glitter Nail Polish Easily!

Glitter nail polish is fun and looks amazing! However, its tricky, boring, hard and irritating to remove! If you have ever applied glitter polish, you will know what I’m talking about! Don’t worry here’s a guide to remove glitter nail polish easily!

So last time I did a glitter gradient nail art using glitter polish(of course!) and here is how I got rid of it.

Things you need:

1. Acetone (works better than nail polish remover but you can using a regular nail polish remover too)

2. Plastic sheet.

3. Cotton.

Step One: Take a piece of cotton and soak it in a cup filled with acetone/nail polish remover.

Step Two: Now place the soaked cotton on your nail.

Step Three: Immediately cover the nail and cotton bud with the plastic sheet. Wait for 5 mins. While you are waiting you can repeat the same for all nails.

Step Four: Remove the plastic sheet and swipe the cotton bud on your nail. Watch your nail polish go away at the same time!

Easy! No fuss! No frustration!

Apply cuticle oil and your nails are now ready for the next nail art!

What is a Base Coat? How to use it?

Ok so everyone is asking me (specially my brother) that how come my nails are not stained or ugly after constant chemical exposure? As you know, I’ve been changing my nail polish almost everyday for the 31 Day nail art challenge. In such circumstances it’s difficult to keep the nails healthy and stain proof..that’s when a base coat come to my rescue..so what is a base coat? keep reading..

What is a base coat?

Base coat looks very similar to clear polish,but it’s not the same! A good quality base coat helps your nail polish to stick to your nail. Base coats are enriched with vitamins like vitamin E or calcium or other proteins,which keeps your nails healthy and prevent them from chipping and breaking.

Sometimes if you apply a dark nail polish like black, you will see that your nails are stained by that particular color, Or sometimes a yellow stain is very visible! Such stained nails look very ugly! Imagine you want to do a french manicure and the white tip looks yellowish..ewww!!Base coats are really very helpful to prevent such staining as they form a protective shield between the nail polish and the nails.

Also if you have uneven nails,it will create a smooth surface to give you a perfect manicure!

How to use a base coat?

Base coat is to be applied on your nail before any layer of nail polish. Just apply a single coat like any other regular polish and allow it to dry. Base coat dries really quickly so you don’t need to worry about wasting time. After its dry apply your favourite nail polish To remove use regular nail polish remover or acetone,whichever you prefer.

Where do I buy a good quality base coat in India? How much does it cost?

Unfortunately,base coats are not easily available in India!Especially offline! I’ve been to almost every beauty shop in Mumbai but all the gave me was clear polish! *angry*

I am currently using a Ranara base coat which works really well for me! You can purchase it here. I purchased it online for Rs. 300 with no shipping charges and cash on delivery One bottle will last a long time It’s better if you do this in a well ventilated room!

Is a base coat really necessary?

If you ask me, I would say YES! Earlier when I started with my nail art passion,I never used a base coat. So my nails became very brittle and yellowish. That’s when I did a lot of research and finally purchased a base coat for myself. After a single application, I started to observe the difference! Now I never do a nail art without applying a base coat If you can spend a lot of money on skin care then why not so little on nail care?

What are dotting tools?

Dotting tools are basically pen type sticks with a round point at one or both end. These are used for multiple purposes like making dots on nails,in crafts and other artwork. The round point comes in various sizes to help you make different sized dots easily!

How to use a dotting tool?

Using a dotting tool for nail arts is easy( I’ve used dotting tools in many of my nail arts). Just put a drop of your chosen nail polish on a plate,dip the pointed end of the dotting tool in the polish and then apply on your nail. Use a bigger sized dotting tool for bigger dots and smaller dotting tool for smaller dots.

Can I make a dotting tool at home?

Yes, there are many household items you can use instead of a dotting tool,however if you want a perfect manicure,a dotting tool is best! Toothpicks are commonly used instead of dotting tools. Bobby pins,pins,pencils and ink-less ball point pens are also used instead of dotting tools. Toothpicks make good dots but if you want multiple even sized dots then its very difficult to obtain that without using dotting tools.

How to clean dotting tools?

Always clean your dotting tool after use. Soak a cotton pad in nail polish remover and clean the pointed head of the tool.

What is the price of dotting tools in India? Where do I buy dotting tools?

It is also available in offline craft stores around Rs. 300-350. If you are planning to buy a set, I would suggest buying a full set rather than buying just a single size. Trust me, these will help you a lot with your nail arts!

Gear Up For Holi!!

The festival of colours is almost here!!Lets prepare for a fun filled and safe holi Here are some do’s and dont’s..

When?

What to wear?

The traditional white kurti and leggings is the best..but you can always go for any old pair of clothes..Girls please wear an inner if you prefer to wear white kurti or t-shirt(you may be splashed with lots of water and we don’t want to get into an embarrassing situation..do we?)

Things you need:

1. Gulal and other colours.

2. Water balloons & water guns

Hair care:

How can I protect my hair from harsh chemicals?

Oil your hair properly, or you’ll end up with badly damaged hair! You can use from a variety of oils like coconut oil, mustard oil, almond oil, awla oil, etc ..

How do I get rid of holi colours from my hair?

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo.. preferably a herbal shampoo. Use a conditioner..You cannot get rid of the colours in a single wash so try this, Apply some curd on your hair after a single wash. Mix curd and lemon juice and apply properly. Leave for 45 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo. Use a good quality hair serum (excessive washing makes hair dry and brittle, a hair serum will really help! Trust me!)

Skin care:

Moisturiser is a must before you step out of the house on holi!

How to remove holi colours from skin?

First of all try to wipe off colours on the skin using a dry waste cloth.(some colours stick to skin when mixed with water)DO NOT RUB! Then take a cold water bath using a mild soap or shower gel. Moisturise your skin immediately after bathing..Do not have a facial or use facial bleach at least for a week after holi!

Other Tips:

Cut your nails short! Do not cut your cuticles ever (especially not before holi) or you will increase the chances of getting an infection.

Don’t forget to drink water..Yes in midst of all the fun we forget to hydrate ourselves causing more damage to our skin!

Do not wear contact lenses.

Water Marble Nail art, beginners guide!

Water Marbling is a new type of nail technique which requires patience..If you are willing to give some time on your nail art, this is for you..It’s not necessary to choose the products I’ve used..instead you can use any polish that you like..

Make sure that your polish is of good quality or atleast new..an older polish may not produce proper water marbling!

Things you will need:

1. Any two nail paints of your choice (I used Revlon’s ruby ribbon and Revlon’s silver screen).

2. A small plastic cup.

3. Paint brush, pencil or any other pointed tool.

4. Filtered water.

5. Cello tape and scissors .

6. Nailpolish remover and cotton Q-tips.

7. Waste cloth.

Before you start:

1. The cup you use should be small, larger cups cause the nail polish to dry out quickly.

2. The water should be at room temperature and filtered.

3. Don’t sit directly under a fan or any windy place.. it’ll cause the nail polish to dry out.

4. Cover the sides of your nails with the tape.

5. Keep your nail polish caps loose(increases speed)

6. Apply a white base coat on all nails.

Let’s start:

Step 1: Fill the cup with filtered water and place in front of you.

Step 2: Gently place a drop of Ruby ribbon nail-paint at the centre of the cup.(you will see that the nail paint spreads out evenly)

Step 3: Now take the Silver screen nail-paint and place a drop at the centre of the cup.

Keep adding both the nail-paints alternatively till you get a bulls-eye (do not take too much time or the nail paint will dry out)

Step 4: Take the pointed end of a paint brush or toothpick (or in my case pencil) & very gently drag your tool through the polish to make your design.

I just put 3-4 diagonal stokes to get this design(Do not start from the outer most circle or you will spoil your design)

Step 5: Now drop your nail into the cup at an angle and hold for a second (as shown in picture).

The polish will stick to your nails along with the desired design. While your nail is dipped in the cup, use your brush and clear off the excess paint from around your finger.

Step 6: Remove the tape and clean the unwanted polish using a Q-tip dipped in nail polishremover.

Step 7: Apply a top coat so that your nail polish would not chip off.

Repeat for all nails and enjoy you water marble nail art
