Products used for this nail art:

1. Loreal color riche black swan nail polish.

2. VOV grey nail polish.

3. Viviana nail enamel- yellow

4. Viviana nail enamel metallic brown.

5. Cheap turquoise glitter polish.

6. Revlon color stay top coat.

7. Ranara base coat.

8. Lakme absolute nude glow gel nail color.

Apply ranara base coat to protect your natural nails. Don’t miss out on this step especially when you are dealing with dark nail polishes.

Step One: Paint your nails black using the Loreal color riche black swan nail polish. Allow it to dry.

Step Two: Using a sponge, dab VOV grey nail polish similarly to what we do in gradient nails. (check gradient nails tutorial here) However here we just dab on little portions of the nail.

Step Three: Now using another sponge dab some yellow nail polish over the grey. And some metallic brown polish around it. Allow it to dry. (Tip: Using tweezers to hold the sponge makes the application easier)

Step Four: Using a toothpick dipped in Lakme Nude Glow Gel color, randomly make many tiny dots. Make a few large dots too. These will make the stars.

Step Five: Apply glitter polish over the entire nail for a starry and shiny look.You can use clear glitter too! I used what I have

Finish with a top coat to seal in your design!Applying is top coat is essential because it will make your nail art smoother !

Products used for this nail art:

1. OPI Pink friday Nail polish.

2. Lakme absolute Nude glow gel color.

3. Loreal Color riche Black Swan nail polish.

5. Tape and scissors.

6. Dotting tools and toothpicks.

Step One: Apply base coat to protect your natural nails.

Step Two: Cut the end of a tape into a semicircular shape. You can also use other round tapes such as corn tape or manicure strips to do this.

Step Three: Place The circular tape at thee base of your nail and paint your nails with two coats of Pink Friday nail polish. Allow to dry.

Step Four: Using a dotting tool dipped in Lakme nude glow nail polish make random dots over the painted area.

Step Five: Make ‘U’ and ‘C’ around the white dots using a toothpick dipped in black nail polish. Make few random dots too. This step is similar to what we did in the cheetah french tips manicure.

Step Six: Apply top coat to finish and seal in your design.

These leopard half moon nails look really pretty..just try it out and let me know the end results!

So last time I did a glitter gradient nail art using glitter polish(of course!) and here is how I got rid of it.

Things you need:

1. Acetone (works better than nail polish remover but you can using a regular nail polish remover too)

2. Plastic sheet.

3. Cotton.

Step One: Take a piece of cotton and soak it in a cup filled with acetone/nail polish remover.

Step Two: Now place the soaked cotton on your nail.

Step Three: Immediately cover the nail and cotton bud with the plastic sheet. Wait for 5 mins. While you are waiting you can repeat the same for all nails.

Step Four: Remove the plastic sheet and swipe the cotton bud on your nail. Watch your nail polish go away at the same time!

Easy! No fuss! No frustration!

Apply cuticle oil and your nails are now ready for the next nail art!

I absolutely love glitter polish and wanted to go something good for the 17th challenge of the 31 day nail art challenge!As you know I’ve already don’t gradient nails in my earlier challenge, but that was using regular polish. So, if you have even a little knowledge in nail polishes you will know that it almost impossible to do ombre nails using the glitter polish and sponge method. So I’m going to show you another way of doing gradient nails which is equally easy!

Products used for this nail art:

1. Cheap turquoise glitter polish

2. Ranara base coat (essential)

3. Asepta top coat.

Step One: Apply base coat to protect your natural nails. Never miss the base coat when dealing with glitter nail polish.

Step Two:Apply a layer of your glitter polish which starts almost at the base of your nail. How ever I prefer to leave a little space around the base.

Step Three: Now once the first coat is dry, apply another layer of glitter polish starting from the middle half of your nail and running towards the tip. Allow it to dry.

Step Four: Apply glitter polish to the tips of your nail. Allow it to dry!

So here we eventually built up more glitter polish around the tip and less near the base thus creating a gradient effect. You can build up more polish if you wish, I’ve done only three coats because i wanted it to be calm and casual and not very very glittery!

Step Five: Finish with a fast drying top coat to seal in your design.

I did a little white wild flower on my ring finger to give it a different look Check my wild flower nail art post to try that.

Its easy yet so sexy! Carry this glitter gradient with a stunning outfit turquoise (such as this one I loved from Lakme Fashion week) and be ready to shine!

1. Maybelline coloroma Prata nail enamel.

2. Express Finish 865 Blue Canard/Turquoise.

3. Lakme absolut Orange squash.

8. Toothpicks.

9. Striper Brush.( You can use a paint brush if your don’t have striper brush)

Let’s begin!

Apply base coat to protect your natural nails.

Step One: Apply two coats of white polish and allow it to dry.

Step Two: Make different sized Stripes across the nail using a brush dipped in orange polish. Some stripes can be thick some can be thin. It all depends on which color you want in your tribal print nail art.

Step Three: Similarly draw more stripes of different sizes using yellow and blue nail polish.Allow to dry.

Step Four: Do a few black line using acrylic paint. I have used acrylic paint instead of a regular black nail polish because it gives me much more control. And its easier to do little detailing with acrylic paint. You can also use black nail polish if you wish.( Secret: I’ve painted black lines where my colored stripes were not very crisp. This gave me a chance to hide my mistakes )

Step Five: So random dots,lines, square triangles,zig-zag lines,arrows or any other tribal design you wish to do with the help of a toothpick dipped in black acrylic paint. You can get really creative here! Draw anything you like!!

Step Six:Apply a fast drying top coat to finish your design.Don’t forget to clean around the nails for a neat and perfect manicure!

I wore this nail art with my beach print dress It looks so good.. I just don’t wish to remove this nail art!

Basically my nail art was inspired by my fellow blogger and friend Priyanjana who did a vintage rose nail art.. I wanted to do the same nail art but then thought of giving it a Gone Trendy twist

Things you need:

1. Skin colored nail polish.

2. Lemon yellow nail polish.

3. Red nail polish.

4. Black nail polish.

5. Green nail polish.

6. Dotting tools.

7. Thin paint brush.

8.Top coat. (essential)

Gather everything and begin!

Start with a ranara base coat to protect you natural nails.

Step One: Do a gradient using skin colored and yellow nail polish. If you don’t know how to do it, check my tutorial for gradient nails.

Step Two: Before we start making roses, use a top coat to seal in your gradient design and give you a smooth surface.

Step Three: Using a dotting tool dipped in red nail polish, make random large dots on your nails. Don’t worry if the dots are not perfectly round.

Step Four: Now this is tricky, using a thin paint brush dipped in black nail polish make a ‘U’ at the center of a red dot.

Make another ‘U’ going slightly outwards from the center.

Keep doing small spaced lines in a spiral manner till you finish outlining the red dot.

Step Five: Repeat for all the red dots.

Step Six: Use the brush dipped in green nail polish to make a few leaves here and there.. Don’t over do the leaves,just a few look great.

Step Seven: Seal in your design with a top coat.

Clean up around the edges of your nails and we are ready to flaunt this pretty roses on a sunny day nail art with a cute floral dress!

What is a base coat?

Base coat looks very similar to clear polish,but it’s not the same! A good quality base coat helps your nail polish to stick to your nail. Base coats are enriched with vitamins like vitamin E or calcium or other proteins,which keeps your nails healthy and prevent them from chipping and breaking.

Sometimes if you apply a dark nail polish like black, you will see that your nails are stained by that particular color, Or sometimes a yellow stain is very visible! Such stained nails look very ugly! Imagine you want to do a french manicure and the white tip looks yellowish..ewww!!Base coats are really very helpful to prevent such staining as they form a protective shield between the nail polish and the nails.

Also if you have uneven nails,it will create a smooth surface to give you a perfect manicure!

How to use a base coat?

Base coat is to be applied on your nail before any layer of nail polish. Just apply a single coat like any other regular polish and allow it to dry. Base coat dries really quickly so you don’t need to worry about wasting time. After its dry apply your favourite nail polish To remove use regular nail polish remover or acetone,whichever you prefer.

Where do I buy a good quality base coat in India? How much does it cost?

Unfortunately,base coats are not easily available in India!Especially offline! I’ve been to almost every beauty shop in Mumbai but all the gave me was clear polish! *angry*

I am currently using a Ranara base coat which works really well for me! You can purchase it here. I purchased it online for Rs. 300 with no shipping charges and cash on delivery One bottle will last a long time It’s better if you do this in a well ventilated room!

Is a base coat really necessary?

If you ask me, I would say YES! Earlier when I started with my nail art passion,I never used a base coat. So my nails became very brittle and yellowish. That’s when I did a lot of research and finally purchased a base coat for myself. After a single application, I started to observe the difference! Now I never do a nail art without applying a base coat If you can spend a lot of money on skin care then why not so little on nail care?

Step One: Start by applying base coat to protect your natural nails.

Step Two: Do french tips for all your nail using the peach colored nail polish.

Step Three: Using a toothpick or dotting tool dipped in black nail polish make multiple dots such as to form a ‘C’.

Step Four: Make a few ‘O’s in the same fashion and some random dots to fill empty spaces.

(Keep in mind you have to do step three and four only on the french tips)

Step Five: Give your french tip a black border on your ring finger. (This is optional but I always prefer to keep my ring finger different from the rest)

Step Six: Apply a fast drying top coat to seal in your design.

Step Seven: Flaunt your new nail art with confidence

What are dotting tools?

Dotting tools are basically pen type sticks with a round point at one or both end. These are used for multiple purposes like making dots on nails,in crafts and other artwork. The round point comes in various sizes to help you make different sized dots easily!

How to use a dotting tool?

Using a dotting tool for nail arts is easy( I’ve used dotting tools in many of my nail arts). Just put a drop of your chosen nail polish on a plate,dip the pointed end of the dotting tool in the polish and then apply on your nail. Use a bigger sized dotting tool for bigger dots and smaller dotting tool for smaller dots.

Can I make a dotting tool at home?

Yes, there are many household items you can use instead of a dotting tool,however if you want a perfect manicure,a dotting tool is best! Toothpicks are commonly used instead of dotting tools. Bobby pins,pins,pencils and ink-less ball point pens are also used instead of dotting tools. Toothpicks make good dots but if you want multiple even sized dots then its very difficult to obtain that without using dotting tools.

How to clean dotting tools?

Always clean your dotting tool after use. Soak a cotton pad in nail polish remover and clean the pointed head of the tool.

What is the price of dotting tools in India? Where do I buy dotting tools?

Dotting tools are cheap. One set will last a lifetime so its like an investment. You can buy dotting tools easily by ordering online. (Click here to buy)

It is also available in offline craft stores around Rs. 300-350. If you are planning to buy a set, I would suggest buying a full set rather than buying just a single size. Trust me, these will help you a lot with your nail arts!

1. Sky blue nail polish.

2. Dark blue nail polish.

3. Striper brush.

4.White nail polish.

5. Top coat.

Lets begin!

Apply base coat to protect your natural nails.

Step One: Apply two coats of sky blue nail polish to all nails except the ring finger and thumb and allow it to dry. Do french tips for the ring finger and thumb.

Step Two: Using a striper brush dipped in dark blue nail polish, do 3-4 vertical lines over the sky blue polish.

Step Three: Using a dotting tool or toothpick dipped in white nail polish make some frosting for your cupcake in the ring finger and thumb. To do this make a rough triangle over your french tip.

Step Four: Make a red cherry at the top of the frosting using a dotting tool dipped in red nail polish. You can also make sprinklers using different colored polishes.

Step Five: Apply a fast drying top coat to each nail to seal the design in!
